Szechuan Beef & Pork Fries

Szechuan Beef & Pork Fries

Like any other good idea, this one came from last minute desperation; idly walking down the aisles of neighborhood Walmart, not knowing what to cook for dinner. My go to meals during these times is either pasta or tacos. And let me tell you, we eat a lot of tacos in our house. Breakfast, lunch, dinner…there’s never a bad time for a taco. This time however, I decided to switch it up and go for an Asian inspired varietal.

You might be scratching your head, looking at the title thinking, it says fries, not tacos. Don’t worry, I’m getting to that, just thought I’d give a quick origin story while you were here. Really the basis of the this recipe relies on the ground beef and pork mixture. It can go in lettuce wraps, crunchy tacos shells, corn tortillas or with pasta noodles. It’s quite versatile, but today, we’re putting it on top of fries. With minimal ingredients required, this recipe is super quick, easy and o so tasty. So, without further delay, let’s get into it.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Yield: 4-6 servings

Ingredients:

For Meat Mixture:
1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1/2 cup chopped white onion
3 tsps minced garlic
2 to 3 tbsps Tsang Szechuan sauce
1 1/2 tsps oyster sauce
1/2 tsp white sugar
salt to taste

Other Ingredients:
french fries
chopped green onion
chopped cilantro
toasted sesame seeds

Optional Toppings:
sautéed cabbage or kimchi
grated carrots
sambal garlic chili paste
sriracha mayo

How to Prepare:

  1. In a 12 inch skillet, preferably cast iron, brown the ground beef and pork mixture with half the Szechuan sauce, half the oyster sauce, onions and garlic. Cook on high, stirring occasionally, until the fat from the meat has cooked out. This will take about 15 minutes.

  2. While the meat is cooking, make the fries according to the bag directions if frozen, or till preferred crispness if homemade. Set aside when done.

  3. Now, add the remainder of the Szechuan and oyster sauce along with the sugar to the meat. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, then add salt to taste.

  4. Once the meat is done, sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds, green onion and cilantro.

  5. Lastly, to assemble, top fries with the cooked meat and the remaining optional toppings or any other desired garnishes and serve.

Enjoy!

Until next time, toodles.
